Summer is hard upon us, bearing down on us with high heat and humidity. With the Thanksgiving holidays just three months away, homeowners are beginning to consider and plan on home improvement projects. Chief among them, and reasonably inexpensive to accomplish, are window treatment changes and upgrades, in preparation for family entertaining and festivities for Turkey Day Weekend.
Lynn Nguyen has owned the store for eighteen years. She enjoys being in the store on Saturdays, taking care of her customers. During the week, sales assistants Jaaziel Coronado and Alma Valencia take care of customers, while Lynn visits with clients in their homes, displaying samples of what is available in the store
Customers like the fact that Express Blinds & Shutters is listed with the Better Business Bureau when they Google area window treatment stores. Lynn is well known in the neighborhood, partly because she is listed in the Kingwood and Eagle Spring neighborhood Facebook pages.
The Smart Shades Savings Event special is in progress, running until September 11, offering a $150 rebate on qualifying purchases of Hunter Douglas window fashions with Powerview Motorization. Intelligent Shades Smart Savings encompasses these Powerview Motorized Shades that move automatically to a schedule that the homeowner can set with their iPhone or iPad, or with a remote control. One can control the shades in different rooms by simply scheduling times when the shades are activated. If a customer’s living room faces the west, for instance, the shades can be scheduled to close partly or fully in the late afternoon in order to keep the sun’s rays from entering.
Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades are a new product. “Sometimes people don’t like the look of the honeycomb [design on shades],” Lynn expounds. “But they want something that will give them some privacy, but still allow them some light filtering.” The Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades have wider horizontal slats than honeycomb designs, yet still look modern and contemporary. By simply pulling gently on the wand, or with the remote control, the Roller Shades go up and down. This motorized design is especially effective for upper windows.
A brand new item that made its debut in the store last month is the Designer Banded Shades, which have a sheer mesh background and horizontal slats that when opened, allow filtered light in while maintaining privacy.
Child safety is uppermost in everyone’s mind. Express Blinds & Shutters and HunterDouglas are no different. The company has been hard at work in improving their products in making them safer around children. Gaining in popularity are new lines that feature cordless shutters and blinds. In lieu of dangling cords, motorized systems allow raising and lowering the shades and blinds by touch, and wands now allow the user to simply twist the units open and closed, or by remote control. Check the floor samples on display to see how well they work with easy hand guidance and with the wands replacing old-fashioned cords, or with remote controls and, of course, iPhone and iPad apps.
Michael from Kingwood came to Express Blinds & Shutters to replace his kitchen blinds. “We stopped here before,” Michael explains, “and liked the selection, and when the current blinds finally gave up the ghost, we decided to come back and look more seriously. We like what we see. Lynn is a very energetic salesperson. We appreciate the special service.”

Lake Houston Parkway, Suite 400, in Atascocita. Showroom hours are 10 AM to 6 PM Mondays to Fridays, and 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays. The showroom is closed on Sundays.
Family members tend to stay the weekend after Thanksgiving Day. Family members will enjoy the new window treatments as motorized shades let in the light while they snack on turkey and ham sandwiches.
