How Rescue Pets Can Teach!

Rescue pets teach “Commitment, Empathy, Patience, and Appreciation”.

When our great niece and nephew Ella & Tyler visited this past year, they enjoyed meeting all the foster pets. They learned the stories of the scared, the hungry and the lonely and they saw firsthand the positive outcome of the ASVT rescued pets.

After traveling back home, Tyler started doing odd jobs to raise money for fleece blankets to help the rescue pets in our care. He had observed how much the dogs and cats enjoyed the soft security of a blanket and he wanted to be sure more rescue pets would feel that same comfort. Tyler has 8 chickens that he is responsible for cleaning, feeding and collects eggs from daily. He took the eggs to his Nana’s horse barn and sold them for $3/dozen to purchase a huge delivery of fleece blankets for ASVT! Thank you Tyler for your commitment to help us!

The blankets came just in time for these lucky pups that ASVT recently rescued. Some were malnourished, scared, flea ridden and one had a broken leg. Tyler sent the blankets and ASVT children here used them to comfort the pets in need.

After a nice bath they snuggled in their blankets and felt the love.

Children of all ages have been a huge part of Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas (ASVT) success.

Sometimes children need a special pal to hold or read to. What better pal than a rescue dog or cat? The love that is given to these beautiful creatures is returned to us tenfold. They teach us unconditional love and loyalty.

How about a family project? Fostering is a perfect way for a family to share the experience of rescuing, nurturing and finding a loving home for pets in need. Worried about falling in love and not being able to part with your foster? Once you have adopted your foster to that perfect person or family you will feel the reward of saving a life. Yes, there have been times when fosters cannot part and they become affectionately labeled “foster failures”…but as a rule loving families adopt these foster pets and live happily ever after. Is it an emotional rollercoaster? You bet, but it is happy tears and emotion when you save a life. It is a great lesson of empathy. FOSTERING IS A LIFELINE FOR THE RESCUE PETS! Please consider fostering and let us know what you prefer to foster!

Also needed is short term fostering for dogs being transported to other states with high adoption rates. This is Adelaide who sat for months at a local shelter until ASVT transported her to Iowa where she was adopted within 2 days! Her adoptive family loves her and already has taken her on a camping trip! Thank you Nancy Gardner for donating and sponsoring Adelaide’s transport! This is another example of how donations help ASVT help them.

Let’s not forget about the seniors!

Teach your children to respect and appreciate seniors. Seniors have a value and can be great teachers!

Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders and from what I have experienced with our Community’s children, we are going in a great direction for the future in regard to commitment and caring for pets in need.

If you would like your children to learn some additional valuable lessons in life, please sign up to join ASVT so we can continue our mission!! Contact us today if you can foster, volunteer to help the animals or organize fundraising!

Fundraising and donations keep ASVT going.

ASVT continues to focus on Community animals in need before they reach the shelter and placing them into ASVT foster homes so they can be adopted.

ASVT pays for medical, spay/neuter, vaccines & microchip. ASVT funds transporting of animals to other states with high adoption rates.

Because of over population of unwanted animals, when the shelters are full animals will be euthanized…. ASVT also helps these animals.

ASVT has been saving lives of community animals in need for 10 years. No one is paid a salary – all the money goes to help the animals. We count on the contributions from the community to “HELP US HELP THEM” and we thank you for your support.
