Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas, 501c3 (ASVT) has been helping to improve the quality of lives for animals in our community since 2010.
Since that time ASVT was proud to volunteer time and provide donated funds to the City of Conroe Animal Shelter, which improved the living conditions and outcome for the animals. ASVT created a volunteer program so every dog would receive daily exercise and cats would be socialized.
ASVT organized offsite adoption events and created a foster program, which allowed individual care for animals that would not survive in a shelter environment and found permanent homes for them. ASVT purchased Kuranda beds, outdoor exercise kennels, enlarged indoor cat enclosures, to improve adoptability of the shelter animals. It was rewarding to work with hundreds of youths in groups to inform them and improve life for animals. Special youth projects were implemented creating groomed hiking trails, shade areas & picnic tables.
ASVT financed transportation for animals to rescue groups in other states who find homes for our uncared pets.
ASVT was the voice for the animals & provided transparency and oversight.
Thousands of dollars donated to ASVT from our Community was spent on medical expenses, spay and neuter, transporting and all the listed items. No one is paid a salary – 100 % of the donations goes to help the animals.
Due to differences with CARE Corp., a “for profit company”, hired to run the shelter, ASVT was told that we could no longer volunteer or foster at the City of Conroe Animal Shelter. While it is heartbreaking to many of our long time volunteers to see the Conroe City Shelter without a meaningful volunteer, off site or fostering network, the shift to county and community is actually more representative of the ASVT volunteers and our mission.
We hope that the City of Conroe will replace and continue the provisions equal to what was provided by ASVT. We also hope the transparency put in place by ASVT will continue so management is aware of special immediate needs of animals. These services are the backbone of any shelter system.
So – no time to waste – we need to continue our mission. ASVT has shifted our focus to community animals in an effort to help them BEFORE they enter the shelter system and we support the Montgomery County Animal Shelter on 242 by fostering, rescuing and transports.
ASVT continues to have offsite adoption events with these animals and we celebrated another successful Adoption Day at Wiesner Automotive! Thank you Wiesner!
ASVT has been fortunate to publish animal awareness, successes and needs in these monthly articles and with your continued support we will continue to help more animals in need. THANK YOU DOCK LINE MAGAZINE!
ASVT proudly continues to accept donations that allow us to provide a wide array of care for the animals from basic vaccines and rabies, spay/neuter surgeries to hip replacement surgeries and long term care.
Thank you to all of our continued supporters and special thanks to Wiesner Automotive, Conroe Empire Electric, First Financial Bank, Milstead Glass and Home Décor, M2 The Agency, Gil & Kay, Ransom’s Steakhouse in Montgomery and many more!!!!
