STAGE RIGHT of Texas, resident theatre company at the historic Crighton Theatre, presents Mel Brooks’ riotous Young Frankenstein – The Musical October 20-Nov. 5. The show is directed by Brenda Storseth.

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation, The Producers, comes this monster new musical comedy. The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein! Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (who prefers it be pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) reluctantly inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. The electrifying adaptation with book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Mel Brooks is monstrously funny and sure to leave you in stitches.

Director Brenda Storseth proved she can do ‘spooky’ very well having directed The Addams Family for STAGE RIGHT last season and Arsenic and Old Lace a few years back. Leading the cast as Frederick Frankenstein is funny man Adam Isbell. Adam has been adored by audiences at both the Crighton and Owen Theatre. He was Little Mary Sunshine in the Players production of Chicago and Lord Farquaad in Shrek-the Musical at the Crighton. Frederick’s leggy assistant Inga is played by STAGE RIGHT leading lady Sara Preisler. Sara showed her versatility this past season having appeared as love-smitten Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Fredrick’s wild-eyed sidekick Igor is played by Michael Martin who appeared as the stuffy Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady and Billy Flynn in the Players production of Chicago. Playing Fredrick’s tease fiancée is Courtney Berry. Courtney is returning to the Crighton stage having been in the ensemble of The Addams Family and was seen this past summer at the Owen as Doralee in 9 to 5. STAGE RIGHT artistic director Carolyn Corsano Wong portrays the mysterious Frau Blucher (cue horse whinny). Carolyn was most recently seen on stage as Mrs. Higgins in My Fair Lady and Maxie Suggs in Farce of Nature and as co-host for the Montie Awards. Carolyn’s co-host at the Monties was the always hilarious Bill Shafer who portrays The Monster. Bill was seen last season as Lurch in The Addams Family (those elevator shoes sure are coming in handy!). STAGE RIGHT president, Phil Clarke portrays the one armed one legged Inspector Kemp. Phil was seen last season as Zoltan Carpathy in My Fair Lady. Newcomer Wayne Mixon portrays village idiot Ziggy. Also new to STAGE RIGHT is Rick Sellers who portrays Victor Frankenstein. Rick has a large body of work with the Players at the Owen and can be heard on Lone Star Internet Radio as a host. Finally, the lonely Hermit is played by STAGE RIGHT business manager and founder Steve Wong. It’s been a long time since Steve graced the stage; he’s usually behind the scenes. The last time was as Underling in The Drowsy Chaperone.
