Service Connected Disabled Veterans Get More Than Just Compensation

Veterans with service-connected disabilities (rated through the VA) are often entitled to more benefits than just compensation. Make sure you are taking advantage of all of your entitlements. Listed below are a few additional benefits based on the percentage of disability. For instance starting with the lowest percentage:

10% – 20% Service Connected Disabled (SCD)

Medical care for the rated disability(ies) at no charge. Co-pays for non-related RX and doctor visits. Possible hearing aids & glasses at no fee, no charge.

Property tax exemption for first $5,000 appraised value of home (Texas Benefit)

Vocational Rehabilitation & Counseling

Clothing Allowance for VA issued prosthetic devices

Veteran’s preference on civil service (10%)

30% – 40% SCD

Property tax exemption for first $7,500 appraised value of home

Additional compensation for dependents

Non-competitive Federal employment

Mileage reimbursement for VA scheduled medical appointments

50% – 60% SCD

Property tax exemption for first $10,000 appraised value of home

Special DV license plates – cost $3.00 for 1 plate (fee/or reduced tow fees, free airport

parking)

60% SCD

Free TX Driver’s License

Free TX Hunting & Fishing License Pkg.

Free TX State Park Admission (w/TPWD passport)

70% – 90% SCD
