5 Things to do on Valentine’s Day with your Kids

Traditionally, Valentine’s day is the day to spend with your spouse. It’s the romantic holiday of jewelry commercials and rom-coms. But how do you include your kids in this holiday of love? There’s an abundance of things you can do as a parent to make your kids feel special on Valentine’s Day!

A HEART-y Meal

Kids love snacks and food. It’s easy to turn your child’s favorite meal into a cute Valentine’s surprise. All you need is a heart shaped cookie cutter and some red food dye! Stamp a heart out of a piece of bread and cook an egg in the hole for a cute breakfast. Make some heart shaped sugar cookies with your little ones. Cut strawberries in half and notch out a triangle on the top to make them heart shaped. Heart shaped pink pancakes, heart pizza, pink smoothies, and a pink, red, and white charcuterie snack board would be perfect for this special day.

Heart Attack!

A “heart attack” is a fun activity and a good way to have your child express love for a close friend or family member. Start by collecting pink, red, and white craft paper. Cut out different sized hearts and grab some painters tape. Have your child write a note or design a card saying why they chose to give this friend a “heart attack” and how much they are appreciated. Drive to the friend’s house and tape the hearts and note to their door! This is a super fun way to teach your child how to express love and gratitude.

Jar of Love

Grab a large pickle jar and some heart shaped notecards or sticky notes. Have your children write down things they love, people they love, and why love is important to them. Fill the jar with as many of these notes as you can. Throughout the year you can add to it or have fun reading with your child all the things your family loves. Decorate the Jar and make it a decoration or a tradition to carry into the next year!

Go on a Date

Get your littles dressed up and go on a date! If they are old enough, taking them to a nice restaurant would be a treat! Make sure to take lots of pictures! Even sitting in at a fast food restaurant will feel special.

Have a Movie Night

Movie nights are a great way to make your child feel special and loved. Pick a list of movies you think your kids will enjoy and let them pick their favorite. Make with them a fun snack like Valentines themed trail mix or dirty popcorn. Pick out or buy some cute PJ’s and cozy up on the couch with the family. After the movie, talk to your kids about your favorite parts of the movie, and why it was a good pick for the special day.

Whatever activities you choose to do with your kids, make sure to give them lots of hugs and let them know how much you care about them.
