On Friday, September 1st, the magical story of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST roars into The Owen Theatre at 225 Metcalf in downtown Conroe! The Players Theatre Company is proud to bring this production to The Owen Stage!
Director Carole Lamont was once again overwhelmed by the turn-out to audition for the show. With close to one hundred auditioning, Carole had very difficult choices to make. “It is a director’s dream to have such a great turn-out! I was very blessed with having so many great singers and actors audition for me. I wanted to use everyone, but just couldn’t.”
The cast of forty-nine is anxious to bring the story of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST to life on The Owen’s stage. The story of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is based on a true story that took place long ago in France. While the real story of Petrus and Catherine Gonsalvus did not have magic clocks or dancing dishes, it was a story of love and courage. Petrus suffered from a genetic condition known as Ambras Syndrome which caused him to have an abnormal amount of hair growth making him appear to be a beast. Catherine saw beyond his looks and discovered the wonderful person hidden behind “the beast.” In Disney’s story, Belle does the same and not only discovers her true love, but saves the lives of all in the castle who have been cursed by an Enchantress’ magic spell.
Disney brought the story to life in one of its most beloved full-length animated productions. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST premiered in 1991 on the big screen to the delight of audiences. It was Disney’s 30th animated feature film. The stage production exhibits Alan Menken’s beautiful music score with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rich, and book by Linda Woolverton. The Players Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI).
Joining Lamont again is her great music team of Vocal Director Robert Lewis, Orchestra Conductor Sal Jimenez. “I couldn’t do it without these two! They are the best! They bring great talent and experience which helps to push the production to greater heights. I loved working with them on MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS and Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID. I know this show will be as wonderful.” Also joining the team again is costumer Lynn Peverill. “I can’t wait to see the finished product. Lynn performs magic on-stage with her costumes! I just know they will be beautiful and will truly enhance the production.”
With so many potential cast members to choose from, decisions were difficult, but Carole and Robert couldn’t be prouder of the cast for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Making-up the cast is:
