Lake Conroe Fishing Report – March 2020

Lake Conroe Fishing Report – March 2020

Black Bass:  This is the time of the year that a bass fisherman has a chance to catch the largest bass of his or her life.  Most of these fish are in the back of creeks and shallow coves making ready for the spawn.  Spinner baits, plastic worms and shallow running crank baits fished near cover such as stumps, boat docks or any rocks in these areas are all good bait choices.

Crappie:  Crappie will be moving to the shallow protected areas as well and can be caught by fishing minnows beneath a bobber fished along the banks with some cover such as brush, stumps or boat dock pilings.  Depths can vary between 2’ – 12’ depending on water temperatures and clarity.  Try moving from one area to another.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass:  At this time of year these fish can be found on submerged humps and points anywhere from 15’ – 25’ depths.  I usually start out by trolling pet spoons behind deep diving crank baits to catch and locate these fish.  If I locate these fish near the bottom, I like to use ¾ oz. slab spoons and bounce them along the edge of these humps or points for some good action.

Catfish:  Catfishing is always going to be active at this time and can be caught under the 1097 Bridge or along the river and creek channels.  Just by baiting up the area with milo or range cubes, you will attract a good number of these fish in the area where you are fishing.  Chicken liver, shrimp and dip baits are all good bait choices for catfish.
