Your Hometown Team for Automotive Care
Extend the life of your vehicle with the pros at Lake Conroe’s Grease Monkey

Advanced automotive technology has improved the durability and longevity of vehicles – if they are serviced regularly and properly maintained. Perhaps that’s why the team approach at Lake Conroe’s Grease Monkey is growing in popularity.
Modernautomotive technology involves expensive computer diagnostic equipment andadvanced digital technology to achieve and maintain peak performance. Take care of your vehicle by following the manufacturer’s maintenanceschedule and it can last hundreds of thousands of miles. Ignore minor problems and routine maintenance and there’s a good chance you’ll be shopping for a new vehicle sooner than expected.
“Most people don’t have the time, interest or skill to keep up with vehicle maintenance,” said Jim Wheat, owner of Grease Monkey in Montgomery along with wife JoAnn. “We have assembled the right equipment and trained staff to get the job done right ? fast and affordable.”
Since 2006, Grease Monkey has been the preferred preventative maintenance provider in the Lake Conroe area. Most people know them as a fast, convenient and affordable place for an oil change or a state inspection, but Grease Monkey provides a wide range of repair and maintenance services, including tire rotation, brakes, shocks, air conditioning and checking transmission and other fluids.
Automotive service is something Jim and wife JoAnn know all about. Jim’s background includes senior management positions with Western Auto, Pennzoil, Jiffy Lube and Penske Auto Centers. He met and married his spouse when both of them worked at Pennzoil.
Taking care of your vehicle is an important part of ownership, said Wheat, because the fluids used in automotive engines are designed for a specific period of time and become less efficient after their useful life. Additives are consumed over time, resulting in the potential for increased wear and eventual failure if not properly updated in a timely manner.
“Driving through high water can allow moisture to mix with your transmission fluid or get into your vehicle’s differential and cause significant damage that could be expensive to repair,” said manager Tyler Blazier. “We check all fluids as part of our inspection process and that can save you problems down the road.”
Whether vehicle owners are coming for routine service or to check out a specific concern, Grease Monkey is the place to go in the Lake Conroe area.
“Our location has serviced over 100,000 vehicles since its opening,” said Wheat. “People like our convenient location and fast service and they appreciate our friendly, personal customer service.”
That includes the scheduled maintenance requirements required for new vehicles. A lot of people think they need to go to the dealership for service to keep their warranty, but that’s not the case.
“We can provide the services required by the car manufacturer,” said assistant manager Rachel Miller. “For folks in the Lake Conroe area, Grease Monkey is more affordable and a lot more convenient.”
Indeed, many owners find Grease Monkey a superior choice for scheduled maintenance ? less expensive and more efficient than the dealership from which they purchased the vehicle. And dealers can’t legally void your manufacturer’s warranty just because you have your scheduled maintenance done somewhere else.
When customers visit Grease Monkey for an oil change, they get more than they bargained for. ASE-certified technicians perform a detailed inspection of the vehicle and its major systems. Outside windows are washed, the car interior is vacuumed, air filter checked, tires inflated to optimum pressure and fluid levels checked for battery, transmission, coolant, differential, brakes and power steering
“We also do a safety check on every vehicle and let people know things that may need to be addressed sooner or later,” said Wheat. “But there’s no pressure. We point out potential issues and let the customer decide. We’re not going to risk a long term relationship by selling you something your vehicle doesn’t need.”
Even if you aren’t an automotive expert, it’s often clear when something is wrong. When your vehicle is not working, bring it in to the experts at Grease Monkey for a checkup.
“We’ve found live mice in the AC filter and snakeskins in the engine compartment,” said Blazier. “If there’s a problem, there’s a good chance we can fix it.”
Finding Grease Monkey is easy ? a 25-foot inflatable monkey is perched above a tall sign along Texas 105, just east of Walden Road. The iconic figure is popular with children and adults alike.
“When we take the monkey down for maintenance or repairs, we always get a lot of folks asking where it is and when it will be back,” quipped Wheat. “It’s become part of the Lake Conroe landscape and a reminder that we are here to help keep our customer’s cars and trucks running their best.”
Tradition is important to Wheat and his team of experienced automotive experts.
“We work to provide the most complete and best possible service to our customers,” said Wheat. “We are proud to be part of the community.”
Assistant manager Rachel Miller agrees, saying she is often recognized by customers outside of work. “A lot of people recognize me as the ‘Grease Monkey’ girl,” she said. “And I’m okay with that.
