Movies to Watch on Netflix While You’re Stuck at Home

Since most people won’t be going to the movie theaters any time soon, we thought it would be a great idea to list some movies to watch on Netflix. This is not a conclusive list of everything. However, here are ten films we think everyone should watch if given the chance.

Indiana Jones Films

An ode to classic pulp fiction films, these Harrison Ford movies stand the test of time! Starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark, you will be thrown into a world of fast-paced action! It’s one of the best movies to watch on Netflix for it’s over the top stunts and story steeped in Christian mythology. It’s a classic tale of good versus evil as Indy battles against Nazis, the Occult, and other foes in this series. Netflix currently has all four films to watch, but the original three are timeless classics.

Goodfellas

Ever want to know the life of a gangster? Based on the book Wiseguy, it’s about the life of Mafia associate Henry Hill. In this tale of debauchery, theft, violence, and downfall you’ll be exposed to the many highs and lows of being a Mafia gangster. Starring Joe Pesci, Robert DeNiro, Ray Liotta, and directed by Martin Scorsese you’ll see the perfection of the gangster genre. It’s not just that the story is captivating, but the characters are engaging. Even when you start to feel comfortable, you know violence is just around the corner. This is not a family movie, but it is a great movie to watch on Netflix. Just make sure the kids are already in bed.

Marriage Story

Netflix has started to dive into making its own original films and this one of the best movies on Netflix. Noah Baumbach directs this film with precision and care. All you need to know is that it is the story of a divorce. I don’t want to spoil anything else about this movie, but let’s just say that life is unfair even when you have good intentions. Winner of an academy award, Marriage Story is a must-see movie to watch on Netflix. Just be ready to cry as two people clash and both are somehow right and somehow wrong. Make sure you have a box of tissues nearby because it’s an emotional rollercoaster.

Rosemary’s Baby

A horror classic, Rosemary’s Baby follows Rosemary as she moves into a new apartment in New York City. What happens next is a twisting, gut-wrenching tale of horror and terror. Known as a defining moment in the horror genre, Rosemary’s baby is known to make your skin crawl with direction and nail-biting scenes. The longer Rosemary stays at this apartment the worse her life becomes and the harder it is to deal with her own reality. Mixing body horror and psychological horror, this film is a great movie to watch on Netflix because of its striking story and unflinching narrative. Just make sure you have the best pair of headphones to make this movie extra special.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Academy Award-winning animated films are always worth a watch. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is no exception to that rule. Great for both kids and adults, this film tells the story of Miles Morales. After being bit by a radioactive spider, Miles begins his journey to become the next spiderman. However, this isn’t your traditional superhero story. Miles has a unique background and story that leads him to tussle with “Spider-Men” from different universes (there is even a Spider-Pig). Having a star-studded voice cast, inventive animation, and a great script, anyone can enjoy this movie. It’s one of many animated movies to watch on Netflix, just like our next film.

Klaus

Klaus is a special retelling of the famous myth of Santa Claus. It has a great voice cast with Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, and Rashida Jones to name a few. If you are looking for a film that harkens back to 2D animation and tells a universal story then this is the movie for you. You also don’t have to wait till Christmas to watch it. It’s well worth the journey and the payoffs are rewarding. You will also laugh along the way. This is one of the best movies to watch on Netflix with your whole family.

Ex Machina

Looking for the next Scifi to fall in love with? After a man wins a competition to spend time with a tech CEO, things begin to go a little haywire. This film has a lot to say about evolution, life, consciousness, and the human mind. How much will AI learn from us? Will AI surpass us? Can we fall in love with a robot? All of these questions are tackled in this film in a thriller-esq way. Not to mention the stellar performance given by Oscar Issac as the CEO who always seems to make you uncomfortable. If you are looking for movies to watch on Netflix that will intrigue you but also scare you, this is the film for you.

The Other Guys

Looking for a classic buddy cop film? The Other Guys is all about action and comedy. Starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, these two opposites unite to take down criminals. You will not stop laughing from the one-liners and you’ll be surprised at the cunning of giant tuna (trust us). If you are looking to blow off steam and laugh, this is one of the movies to watch on Netflix. Also, you may want to check out any of Will Ferrell’s other movies on Netflix such as Step Brothers.

Any of Tarantino’s Films

We are going to cheat with this answer as this director has several movies to watch on Netflix. Whether it’s Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards, Jackie Brown, or Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino’s films are a must-watch for cinephiles. Each film tackles different genres while also putting a special spin on them. Some of them have also been defining moments in the film industry such as Pulp Fiction, which tells a story out of sequence. You could be looking for a revenge story like Kill Bill, or historical fiction like Inglorious Bastards. Whatever you are looking for, Tarantino has a film for just about everyone. Don’t sit these great films out.

Abducted in Plain Sight

Looking for a documentary to leave your jaw-dropping on the floor? Abducted in Plain Sight is that film. You will follow the story of a woman and her family as she was abducted multiple times during her childhood, by the same man. With twists and turns you won’t see coming, it’s the perfect documentary to fall into. You will learn that truth really is stranger than fiction.

Edit: If you are looking for another documentary to check out Tiger King is excellent. Go into it blind, and get ready for a wild ride. Not kid-friendly.
