Lake Livingston Fishing Report: September 2020

FISHING FORECAST:

September on Lake Livingston is one of the best months of the year to be on the water. Lots happening here now along with great fishing and the opening of the Teal Duck season.  I have written about it many times and like to refer to it as the “Teal Bass Combo Fandango”.  Duck hunt in the morning and then turn to Bass fishing.  The river is usually low and clear in the Riverside area now.  Look for Whites in the cuts off the river channel where you can catch them on lipped crank baits.  Watch for schooling Whites in the river for fast action on the hard fighting game fish.

Good luck, Dave.

SPECIES REPORT:

Black Bass {largemouth} – Fish the log jams in the river with six-inch June bug Lizards and Black neon micro craw Texas rigged. Fish the wood and rocks around bluff banks with the same baits and lipped crank baits in sexy shad and splatter back.

Catfish – Good jug line fishing the bays, Harmon Creek and Bethy Creeks can be good now with fresh cut shad. Best days are with a south or southwest wind moving the jugs.  Also, fish the mid lake bridges on the old 190 road bed with fresh shad or chicken liver.

Crappie – Fish the lay downs in White Rock, Bethy and Harmon Creeks. Key on deeper holes and fish the end of the lay down about 5’ with minnows and jigs.

White Bass – Fish the humps lower and mid lake 17’ to 21’ with slab baits.  Look for birds and follow schooling action. Look for Whites and Hybrids in the cuts in the river channel. Fish where you see birds lining the banks here.  Throw lipped crank baits or troll a pet spoon behind a downrigger in the river.

Alligator Gar – Continued good fishing for trophy Gar now in the river.  Fish large shad on the bottom.
