Stage Right Presents A Season of Friendship

“Time doesn’t take away from friendship, nor does separation.” observes Tennessee Williams.  As we recover from the past year, we realize the truth of this sentiment.  We at Stage Right have sorely missed our friends and patrons and we are excited to offer our 21-22 season dedicated to friendship and reacquaintance.  Sara Preisler, artistic director and her play selection committee have created a season of humor, excitement and love.

Our opening play Steel Magnolias, centers around Truvie Jones’ Louisiana beauty parlour where a tightly-knit band of friends confront griefs, loss, life’s unforeseen tragedies and heartaches with what they do best: gossiping and sharing.  This show is about the bond a group of women share in a small-town southern community and how they cope with the death of one of their own. Steel Magnolias runs September 10-26, 2021.

Whodunnit is a family-friendly murder mystery that has numerous different endings.  You may be inspired to see it more than once! Our audience will determine how the show ends which provides endless excitement. Even the cast does not know how the show will end each night!  Featuring a small cast of extreme and interesting characters, Whodunnit is sure to be a delight to our audiences!  It runs October 22-November 7, 2021.

December brings Elf, the Musical.  Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawl into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole.  The would-be elf is unaware that he is actually a human until he enormous size and poor toy-making ability cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York to find his birth father and discover his true identity.  This heartwarming story runs from December 3-19, 2021.

The first production of the new year running February 11-27, 2022, is The Drowsy Chaperone. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Opening Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song after another.

Running April 8-24, 2022 is Neil Simon’s The Dinner Party. A decidedly French dinner party is served up in a chaotic mode that only a master of comedy could create.  Five people are invited to dine at a first-rate Paris restaurant.  They do not know who the other guests will be or why they have been invited. Tossed together in a private dining room, they have a sneaking suspicion that this unorthodox dinner party will forever change their lives.

The final show of this wonderful season is Grease, a salute to graduating high school seniors. With hip-shaking rock ‘n’ roll score featuring hits like “Summer Nights”, “Greased Lightning” and “We Go Together”, Grease celebrates Rydell High’s class of 1959 in all their duck-tailed, bobby-soxed, gum-smacking glory.
