June 2024: Lake Livingston Fishing Report

FISHING FORECAST:

Record water levels on Lake Livingston this spring has made fishing tough going for anglers here.  Flooding of homes and property has created a hardship for many residents around the lake.  The good news is dryer weather and summer patterns are beginning to emerge.

As the lake settles out and returns to normal levels fishing for all species will improve.

Look for White Bass in clearing water on mid lake and lower lake humps 11’-17’.  Dove Island, Penwaugh Basin, the old 190 Road Bed, Walker Lake, and Pine Island areas should be settling out and clearing by mid-June.  Jig Duck tracker slabs near the bottom feeling for strikes on a falling bait.  Also trolling pet spoons with a down rigger can produce fish in the same areas.

Fish for Blue Cats in the upper river channel with fresh cut shad if the river is flowing with current.  Rising water is always better here.  Drifting fresh cut carp or shad can produce big fish mid and lower lake around the old river channel.

Crappie fishing will improve with lower water levels and clearing conditions. Fish minnows and jigs around wood and boat houses 4’-6’ in Kickapoo, White Rock and Caney Creeks.

As water levels return to normal fish June bug creature baits shallow around wood and rocks 3’-5’ in the creeks for large mouth bass. Throw shallow diving shad pattern crank baits around rocky points.

Lake Livingston can be a volatile lake with extreme changes in water levels due to weather patterns.
