A shelter in place order can be hard to deal with, especially if you have never worked from home before. Although there is a learning curve, you may find that you can still stay healthy and actually enjoy your time while staying at home. Here are a couple of key tips to make your days easier during a shelter in place.
Workout
One of the best ways to deal with the stress of shelter in place and the Coronavirus is to workout. Not only are you going to get your heart racing and release endorphins, but you get to channel your stress. It’s a great way to still overcome obstacles and feel as if you have completed something. Home workouts vary widely and you should come up with a workout plan that works for you. This could come from workout apps or one you have put together. This is also the perfect time to workout from home as a beginner. If you have been worried about going to the gym and people judging you, now is the perfect time to start building your confidence. Start small and build momentum. Try out new styles and workout plans so you can know what you like. Either way, your body, and mind will thank you for working out during a shelter in place.
Have a designated spot for work
Even if you don’t have an office in your home, you still need a specific spot to do your work. We recommend that it not be your sofa or dining room table. There is this weird trick our brain does if we have a designated work zone. Our brain signals that it is time to work and it becomes easier to focus when we are in that spot. If you try to do your work on your bed, your brain signals that it’s time to go to sleep. The same can be said for your dining table or other areas of your home. Have a designated work area or desk to get the most done while in a shelter in place.
Routine
Having a routine you follow during your shelter in place can help you as it has helped those in Italy. Waking up on time, getting dressed, and cooking breakfast can all make the days pass by easier and help you distinguish the days apart. Set hours on working, cooking, planning, working out, and other things. This will help you keep track of your tasks and how to best complete them. Also, it gives you a sense of direction and how to stay focused.
Keep in touch with loved ones
During the shelter in place, you are going to miss your friends and family. Plans will have to be canceled, and that can put a damper on your mood. Don’t be afraid to contact them, though! Try group video chatting apps to talk to multiple people, or send letters in the mail to a loved one. Facetime and call loved ones often. Remember that everyone is in this together and this will pass.
Walk or spend time in your backyard
If you have space, spend time in your backyard or take a walk down the street. Just remember to perform social distancing. In your backyard, consider hanging out and relaxing. Try to be around nature and enjoy yourself. It’s best to get outside your home for a little bit, even if it is your backyard.
Work on a personal project
Have a personal goal that you have wanted to tackle but never found the time? Now is your chance. Whether you want to get into woodworking or start a blog, now is the time to invest in yourself. Set goals for yourself to measure progress while in a shelter in place. If you need any supplies, try figuring out creative solutions or take a new approach. Use the extra time you have to work on a passion project. You might surprise yourself.
Read, watch movies, or play board games
Passing time while during a shelter in place can be rough, but this is the perfect chance to knock out some shows you have been meaning to watch. You can also try reading more books. Libraries are offering more of their books and resources online so it won’t cost as much money. Listen to an audiobook while working out or cleaning the house. Look up some of the best shows on streaming services and start watching. If you are for family fun try a fun board game or card game.
Clean your home
You’re going to be in your home a lot when in a shelter in place. Why not keep it clean? You will be productive and it can have a positive impact on your mood. Do some deep cleaning and clear out old junk you don’t need or make a donations box.
Try Meditation
Meditation is a great way to clear the mind and de-stress. You clear all the thoughts in your head. You let worries and concerns flow out of yours. It can be a great way to calm yourself down after worrying about this virus. Use meditation to control your anxiety and focus on your wellbeing.
