Fishing Report:
Black Bass: September marks the beginning of a season change on Lake Conroe and even thought it is still hot, the action will get progressively better over the next few weeks. Shad will start moving shallow toward the back of creeks and coves in which many bass will follow. Spinner baits and plastic worms fished along boat docks or shorelines with some type of cover in the early morning is your best bet. Later in the day concentrate on deeper structures such as pond dams, roadbeds and any type of rocks such as bridges or breakwaters.
Crappie: Crappie action will gradually pick up especially toward the end of September, since water temps will cool down. Minnows or small jigs work well along the pilings of bridges around submerged brush in 12’ – 18’ depths.
White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: I like to start out by trolling pet spoons over the top of main lake humps and points in 15’ – 30’ depths. If I locate a group of these fish I will concentrate on that area until the action slows a bit. Often they may just move a short distance away, so try locating another school of these fish.
Catfish: Catfish action has been fair all through the summer and will greatly improve during the upcoming months as well. Fishing baited holes along main lake creeks and along the river in 15’ – 22’ depths are prime catfishing spots. Chicken livers, shrimp and dip baits are all good bait choices.
