Lake Conroe Fishing Report – January 2021

Black Bass

This is the time of year when bass are holding to some type of cover because of the cold weather temps.  Boat docks are good areas to catch bass using jigs, plastic worms and by slow rolling spinner baits.  Also, a great pattern to fish is to cast medium diving crank baits along any of the rock structures along the lake such as bridges, breakwaters and even old unused boat ramps.

Crappie

Most often crappie can be caught this time of year by fishing deep bridge pilings, brush piles and stumps in 15’ – 30’ depths.  Your best bet will usually be minnows, but jigs can also work at times.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass:

Most of these fish will be holding in 20’ – 30’ depths and can be caught on slab spoons bounced along the bottom over main lake humps and points.  Also, I like to troll small pet spoons behind deep diving crank baits to catch and locate these fish.  Often you can catch other fish such as bass and catfish.

Catfish

Catfish during this time of year can be good by baiting up areas along creek and river channels and under the 1097 Bridge with milo or range cubes and using dip baits on sponge hooks or chicken livers.  Try baiting up several locations and try fishing each one for the best action.  Depths can range from 15’ – 25’ or so.
