Fredericksburg Trade Days Wraps Up Sunday With 350 Vendors in Seven Barns
Fredericksburg Trade Days runs through Sunday afternoon with more than 350 vendors, a biergarten and live music. Here's what to know before you go.
If you have a free Sunday afternoon and a pickup with room in the bed, Fredericksburg has an idea for you.
Fredericksburg Trade Days opened Friday, Oct. 16, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 18, according to the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce calendar. The chamber lists hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
What you will find
The chamber listing promises more than 350 vendors in seven barns and acres of goods. That includes antiques, collectibles, tools, crafts, shabby chic, primitives, ranch furniture, hunting gear, candles, clothing, jewelry and food. There is a biergarten with live music; the listing names Jesse Stratton and Gary Allen Berg among the acts.
A trade days is one of the oldest kinds of market there is. Someone has a thing they no longer need, someone else is looking for exactly that, and they settle on a price face to face. You can't get that kind of bargain from a phone screen, and you won't hear the story behind the old cast-iron skillet on a website either.
Before you go
Sunday hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: 355 Sunday Farms Lane, Fredericksburg
Parking: $5, good all weekend
Questions: The chamber lists 830-997-5000
Get there early for the best pickings. Wear good walking shoes, since seven barns and open acreage add up. Bring cash in case some vendors don't take cards, and leave room in the vehicle in case that ranch table turns out to be the one.
Music in town after
If the family wants to stay in town for lunch or supper, the chamber calendar lists two Sunday shows on Main Street. Nef Hernandez plays Altdorf Restaurant & Biergarten, 301 W. Main St., from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Andrea Marie & The Magnolia Band plays Crossroads Saloon & Steakhouse, 305 W. Main St., from 7 to 10 p.m.
Many Hill Country families will go to church Sunday morning first, and the Sunday hours allow plenty of time for that. Worship in the morning, a few hours of treasure hunting in the afternoon, and supper on Main Street makes a good Sunday in Gillespie County.
