MISD Fishing Team Four Down One to Go

The MISD Fishing Team entered the Fourth segment of the Texas High School Bass Association Houston Division Competition, with a mere One-point lead over their closest competitors for the Conference lead. The team responded well to the pressure packed situation, and came away with a resounding victory at Toledo Bend on February 15th. The win added Two more points to the Team’s lead in the Houston Division, going into the final Conference Tournament of the 2019-20 Season.

While winning the Tournament over 22 other Houston Area High Schools, the Team also did something they have never done in Six years of Competition, by having 5 teams in the Top 10 for a tournament. Leading the way for the Team was the Tandem of Jake and Zach Hird. The Hird Brothers brought in 5 fish for a limit weighing 14.15 pounds to capture 2nd Place overall for Individual Teams out 132 competing from 23 Houston Area High Schools. They were followed by James Hooten and Steele Bokemeyer, with 5 of their own that weighed 13.22 pounds, landing them in 6th place. Will Collora and Brayden Miller also had a 5 fish limit that tipped the scales at 12.29 pounds, earning this pair a 7th place finish.

Helping with the record setting day of having 5 teams in the Top 10, Dallas Copeland and Evan Franks brought 5 fish to the scales for a total weight of 12.14 pounds, securing an 8th place finish. Jack Haag and Conner Callihan completed this awesome day, with a 9th place finish with 11.99 pounds.

After tabulating the top 3 teams for MISD, which is how the overall Team champion is decided, MISD won handily with over 39 pounds. Adding to the excitement was Taylor Peel, who brought in the Big Bass of the Tournament, with a 7.27-pound fish. By finishing in First Place, the Squad has a little breathing room going into the last Conference Event on Lake Livingston on March the 7th.

Immediately following the last Conference event, the Individual Teams that have acquired enough points to Qualify for Regionals, will represent MISD at the Regional Tournament. This year, the Regional Championship will be held on Lake Conroe on April the 11th. It will be here that the MISD Fishing Team will look to win their Third Regional Championship in Six Years. It is also where Individual Teams will vie for a coveted State Championship Berth, where the Team will look to win their second State Championship.
