July 2022 Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Anglers can expect to find bass holding shallow during early morning hours along rock structures such as bridges and breakwaters. Crank baits or Texas rigged plastic worms work well in these areas after the sun comes up a bit. I fish deeper structures such as submerged pond dams, road beds and main lake points in 10’–15’ depths using Carolina worm rigs. It helps to get your worm down to the cover much faster especially if there is any wind.

Crappie: Crappie action during the heat of summer can be a bit slower than the spring months, but by fishing minnows and jigs around brush, timber and bridge pilings in 12’–20’ depths you can still have some decent action at times.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: This is a great time of year because they are aggressive and can be found near the mid and south sections of the lake in 18’-32’ depths. They can be caught on slab spoons if they are close to the bottom or by trolling pet spoons if they are suspended between the bottom and the surface. Main lake humps and points are good areas to target.

Catfish: Catfish action is also very steady at this time of year and be caught under the 1097 Bridge and on the edges of river and creek channels in 15’–25’ depths. By baiting up areas with range cubes or milo and using dip baits or chicken livers, you shouldn’t have any trouble catching some good numbers of these fish.
