Lake Conroe Fishing Report- October

Black Bass: October marks the beginning of a seasonal change and even though it is still hot at times the action will progressively get better over the next few weeks. Shad will start moving shallow toward the back of creeks and coves in which bass will follow. Shallow running crank baits and plastic worms fished around boat docks and along any type of rock structure are good patterns to start with. Some areas have stumps, logs and grass, which is another good choice.

Crappie: Crappie action will continue to get better especially as the water temperature starts to cool down. Minnows and jigs fished along the 1097 Bridge and brush piles in 15’-20’ depths are usually good patterns to fish for crappie during this time of year.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: Both of these fish swim together chasing shad and they can be caught around main lake humps and points in 15’-25’ depths. I like to troll pet spoons behind deep diving crank baits until I come across a school of these fish. If I locate these fish along the bottom, I will bounce a slab spoon along the bottom to trigger a strike.

Catfish: This month is the start for great action to catch good numbers of catfish. The water temperature is cooling down a bit and these fish get much more active. Just bait up areas in 17’-23’ depths along creek and river channels with range cubes or milo and use chicken livers, shrimp or stink baits. You shouldn’t have any trouble with some good catfish action.
