CYT Houston Brings Hope to Life in Their Beautiful Production of the Musical Anastasia

What can we cling to when we have nothing? When the three-hundred year reign of the Romanovs came to an end and the Bolsheviks rose to power, many people in the Soviet Union faced a desperate situation. With nothing else to turn to, many turned to a rumor that the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov, survived the massacre that claimed the rest of her family.

This November, CYT Houston brings this hope to life in their beautiful production of the musical Anastasia. Based on the animated film of the same name, Anastasia tells the story of a young woman–Anya–who has no memories of her childhood. When she meets two con men—Dmitry and Vlad—who are desperate to escape Leningrad, they convince her to pretend to be Anastasia Romanov and travel to Paris to trick the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna into paying for Anastasia’s safe return. As they flee to Paris, they are pursued by Gleb Vaganov, a young Bolshevik officer haunted by his father’s role in the Romanov family massacre. He must choose between fulfilling his family legacy or forging his own path. When Anya meets the Dowager Empress will she see through their lie? Is Anya really the long-lost princess? Anastasia explores these questions and more.

Anastasia is full of beautiful music, enchanting choreography, captivating costumes, and serves as an inspiring story of love, loss, and hope told across memory and time. Your spirit will soar with the familiar melodies of “Once Upon a December” and “Journey to the Past” as well as stirring original songs like “The Neva Flows,” “Close the Door,” and “In a Crowd of Thousands.” You’ll be in stitches at the hilarious romance between the con man, Vlad, and his old flame, Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch. You’ll be enraptured by the beautiful dances, featuring a diverse mix of styles including jazz, ballet, waltz, and traditional Russian folk dance. And you’ll leave inspired and hopeful for the Christmas season. Bring your whole family to enjoy this rousing theatrical experience.

Anastasia runs Nov. 10th through Nov. 19th at the Historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe, Texas. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7pm, Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2pm. Tickets available at
