Lake Conroe Fishing Report: January 2024
Black Bass: Now that Winter has arrived, most of these fish will be holding to some type of cover. Boat docks are a prime target to fish plastic worms, jigs, crank baits and also spinner baits. Other bass holding structures would be any bridge or break water, especially if they are rock or concrete. They hold heat and attract baitfish. Now that the lake has grass along the shore lines or in many of the coves around the lake, numbers of bass can be caught in these areas on plastic worms.
Crappie: Most often crappie can be caught this time of year by fishing deep bridge pilings or stumps in 15’-30’ depths. Your best bet will usually be minnows and small crappie jigs.
White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: Most of these fish will be holding in 20’-30’ depths and can be caught on slab spoons bounced along the bottom over main lake humps and points. Also, I like to troll small pet spoons behind deep diving crank baits to catch and locate these fish. Often you can catch other fish such as bass and catfish.
Catfish: Catfish during this time of year can be good by baiting up areas along creek and river channels and under the 1097 Bridge with milo or range cubes and using dip baits on sponge hooks. Try baiting up several areas and try fishing one for the best action. Depths can range from 15’-25’ or so.
