Lake Conroe Fishing Report: July

July on Lake Conroe rewards the early riser.

The heat of a Southeast Texas summer pushes fish into predictable patterns — and anglers who match the conditions can still put fish in the boat.

This month’s report comes from Butch Terpe at Stow-A-Way Marina & RV Park, with practical advice for bass, crappie, stripers, and catfish.

Early starts and the right structure make July productive on Conroe.

Black Bass

Fish early around grass beds, boat docks, and rocky structure. Topwater baits, plastic worms, and chatterbaits are productive during the early morning.

After the sun gets higher, Carolina rigs worked around submerged pond dams, roadbeds, and points in 8–15 feet of water are recommended.

Crappie

Summer fishing can be slow, but patient anglers should find success using minnows or jigs around bridge pilings and brush piles in 10–20 feet of water.

White Bass & Hybrid Stripers

Troll small Pet Spoons behind deep-diving crankbaits around main-lake humps and points in 15–25 feet of water.

Slab spoons bounced along the bottom can also be effective when fish are holding deep.

Catfish

Target the 1097 Bridge along with creek and river channels. Bait an area with range cubes, then fish with dip bait, shrimp, or chicken liver in 15–35 feet of water.

Morning hours continue to provide the best action.

Dock Line Tip — On hot July days, plan to be on the water at first light. Once the sun climbs, move deeper and slow down — structure and patience become the difference makers.
