VA News: Montgomery County Veterans Service Has a Change of Command
Kay L. Lee, Montgomery County Veterans Service Officer has officially retired as of 01/01/2024. Kay has been employed by Montgomery County for 41 years. She began her career with Veterans Service as a file clerk 1985. She worked her way through the ranks and became Montgomery County’s 5th Veterans Service Officer more than 19 years ago. When asked about her tenure as Veterans Service Officer, Kay stated “Every single time I can help a Veteran get the benefits they deserve has always been the best reward for me. It makes a change in their lives. Making a difference is what has kept me working for as long as I have. It has been truly a blessing and honor”. Kay will be definitely missed by all of county veterans and her staff.
I, Kathy L. Smith accepted appointment position as Montgomery County Veterans Service Officer effective 01/01/2024. I have 17+ years of experience with Montgomery County Veterans Service. During this time I have accomplished many goals:
– Active Member of the Selective Service Board
– Senator Creighton’s Appointee to Committee on education for military children
– Facilitator of Operation Resilient Families program
– Bachelor’s Degree
– Ambassador for CRSC (Combat Related Special Compensation) for the DO
– Veterans County Service Officer Association of Texas – Service Officer of the Year 2021
– Accreditation with Department of Veterans Affairs
– Texas Veterans Commission, Veterans of Foreign Wars, & Disabled American Veterans
– Volunteer on a monthly basis with Montgomery County Food Bank and Combined Arms
for Veteran food distribution at VA clinic Conroe
Although I am proud of the achievements listed above, my goal has and always will be to assist our county Veterans, their dependents and survivors. Kay set very high standard for our office and I plan to fill her shoes and maintain her standards.
