Lake Conroe Fishing Report – June 2024

Black Bass:  During early morning hours I start by fishing grass beds along many of the coves and shores with top water baits such as plastic or rubber frog imitations.  It is a blast to watch bass explode on these frogs.  Later in the day plastic worms fished in deeper structures are your best bet around ledges, pond dams and road beds in 8’-15’ depths.  Also, concrete and rocks will hold a good number of active bass at times.

Crappie:  Crappie action can be fair by fishing minnows and small jigs around bridge pilings, timber and brush piles in 10’-17’ depths.  I always use a high visible line when crappie fishing.  It helps you to detect the bite because crappie come from under the bait and they swim up or to the side.  If you see slack in your line, it is probably a crappie.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass:  This is a great time of year for both these fish.  These fish like to hang out along both islands on the south end of the lake and around main lake humps and points in 15’-30’ depths.  I like to troll pet spoons behind deep diving crankbaits because that method covers a great area of water and enables you to locate and catch these fish.

Catfish:  Catfish are very active during this time of year.  Early morning hours until noon is when they seem to bite the best.  I start out by baiting up an area with range cubes to heat up the action.  Then by using either shrimp, chicken livers or dip baits, you shouldn’t have any trouble catching a good mess of cats.
