Lake Conroe Fishing Report

By: Butch Terpe, Stow-A-Way Marina & R.V. Park

Black Bass

This is the time of year that all bass fishermen look forward to — when large bass seek out shallow homes for a while. As water temps reach 60 degrees plus, many of the bass will move in the very backs of protected coves in search of good spawning sights.

Most of the coves have different types of grass along the shore, making for good cover to fish around. Shallow running crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms or lizards are good baits for this type of cover.

Crappie

Many of the crappie will move in the shallows along with the bass for the same reason — getting ready to spawn. Fishing minnows under a bobber around any cover in these coves is your best bet for catching some good slabs.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass

These fish usually hold along drop-offs of submerged humps and points in the main lake area. Slab spoons bounced along the bottom or trolling small Pet spoons in these areas are great methods in catching and locating these strong fighting fish.
👉 They are good eating as well.

Catfish

Your best catfish action can be by baiting up areas along creek & river channels with ranges of fishing dip baits on sponge hooks near the bottom in 15–25′ depths.

Also, under the 1097 bridge is another great catfishing area at this time of year.
