Fruits of the Spirit: Peace

Part 3 of 9 in our Fruits of the Spirit poetry series — a quiet meditation on peace from Galatians 5:22–23.

Fruits of the Spirit — a Dock Line poetry series reflecting on Galatians 5:22–23. Part 3 of 9.

In this series, each poem listens for how love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control show up in ordinary life—with the Lord interrupting hurry, worry, and noise to speak a quieter word.

I was busy rushing through all the things
In my life worth slowing down for

When the Lord interrupted me

And asked me to sit down and talk with Him

And unclench my jaw, and relax my arms

And listen to what He had to say:

“Peace can be found in your feet

It flows through every one of your bones and tendons

Where your feet go, my peace can go too

You have a bad habit of placing peace under your heels

Out of sight, out of mind

And you forget, in times of trouble, where to find it

Let it saturate your feet

Like oil being poured out upon them

And with every step you take

Peace leaves a stain on the ground

And others know where to find it”
