Fruits of the Spirit: Faithfulness
Part 7 of 9 in our Fruits of the Spirit poetry series — a quiet meditation on faithfulness from Galatians 5:22–23.
Fruits of the Spirit — a Dock Line poetry series reflecting on Galatians 5:22–23. Part 7 of 9.
In this series, each poem listens for how love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control show up in ordinary life—with the Lord interrupting hurry, worry, and noise to speak a quieter word.
I was busy worrying about things I can’t control
When the Lord showed up
And He asked me to sit with Him
And take a break
And rock on a swing
And sit shoulder to shoulder
“My faithfulness is found in the rhythms of your body
Your heart beat
The breath in your lungs
Your tears when you cry
Yes, even the blinking of your eyes
All remind you of my faithfulness
These automatic responses to life
These habitual reflexes that you don’t even think about
Are reminders that I am always with you
I am always moving through you
My faithfulness runs through your blood
Your lungs
Your face
This faithfulness inside you
I put there, and it can’t be controlled
It’s a reflex, and can’t be rehearsed”
