August 2023: Lake Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Bass action during late summer can be a little challenging. The pattern can change from shallow to deep in a matter of an hour or so. Your best bet is to fish shallow running crank baits or plastic worms along any type of rocks or boat docks the first hour or so. Once the sun comes up a bit try dragging Carolina worm rigs around main lake points, old road beds and submerged pond dams in 8’–15’ or so.

Crappie: Crappie action may be a little slow during this time of year, but if you are patient, dropping minnows or small jigs around bridge pilings, brush piles or tree stumps, you can manage a decent catch at times.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: At this time of year I like to troll small pet spoons behind deep diving baits near main lakes humps and points in 15’-25’ depths. I will move from one location to another looking for these fish. If they are along the bottom, I will bounce ¾ oz. spoons for some action. Do not be surprised but you can catch other types of fish with these lures.

Catfish: Catfish action is always good, especially during the early morning hours under the 1097 Bridge and along creek and river channels are prime fishing locations. Dip baits, night crawlers and shrimp are all good baits to catch catfish. By baiting up these areas with range cubes or milo, you will increase the action.
