ASVT: Happy New Year 2024 We Rescue On

As we ring in 2024 we reflect back on what we accomplished in 2023 and what we can do even better in the New Year. Resolutions of course, and trying to live up to them as the year goes by.

Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas is proud of all that was accomplished by our rescue since the inception of our group.

We started out as a small group of volunteers at a local shelter in 2010. We could see the desperate need for improvement to the policies and the care of the animals and that is when it all began! We sat around a table and discussed what we felt we needed to do and what we would call ourselves. Many names were discussed and we decided on Animal Shelter Volunteers because that’s what our focus was.  But, we didn’t stop there – we imagined making a positive difference in the Shelter, which we did.

The Shelter did not allow fostering and our determination made that happen!! Our insistence caught the attention of Verle “Ozzy” Osborne (Dock Line Magazine) and he wanted to help bring awareness, so we have written a monthly article since 2010.

ASVT made a difference!!

We felt Montgomery County would be next with our focus. We are now involved with them, but we felt compelled to be Big and added TEXAS to our name because we felt we were on a mission and go for the entire state!

We now proudly network across Texas and beyond. We are a rescue with no boundaries!

Back to the present… we have come a long way from the early days of 2010. Early 2017 we moved our focus to concentrate on abandoned, homeless and injured community animals. Also a start with our Spay/Neuter Program.

With your support ASVT has helped hundreds of dogs and cats find amazing homes.

So by now you are thinking what more can ASVT do to help the animals? We move on to bigger and better things.

ADOPTION EVENTS

We are thankful for the number of businesses that host our weekly Adoption Events. Look for locations on our ASVT Facebook page.

WHY DO ANIMALS NEED FOSTER CARE?

Fostering saves two animals. The one you foster and the one that can now take the empty kennel left by your foster. Many times homeless pets are found on the streets having been dumped by uncaring humans or simply lost and don’t find their way back home. ASVT can take these pets into our rescue only if we have a foster home for them.

Whatever the reason, these pets need extra love and care before they can be adopted. Providing foster care can be a lifesaving gift for a homeless pet.

How about a family project? Fostering is a perfect way for a family to share the experience of rescuing, nurturing and finding a loving home for the pets in need. Worried about falling in love and not being able to part with your foster? Once you have adopted your foster to that perfect person or family you will feel the reward of saving a life. Yes, there have been times when fosters cannot part and they become affectionally known as “Foster Fails”… but as a rule loving families adopt these foster pets and live happily ever after. Is it an emotional rollercoaster? You bet, but it’s happy tears of joy and emotion when you save a life. It is a great lesson of empathy. FOSTERING IS A LIFELINE FOR THE RESCUE PETS! Please consider fostering and let us know if you prefer to foster puppies, kittens, dogs or cats! Just submit a Foster Application.

SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM

The stray animal population in our community and in all of Texas continues to multiply. The only solution is to spay/neuter as many as possible. We understand that not all pet owners can afford the expense of this surgery. ASVT is helping with this problem. Our Spay/Neuter Program is in place to help financially with getting these pets altered.

As always, we continue to find loving homes for the less fortunate animals found on our streets. ASVT takes in animals from abusive, neglected homes or stray situations. We take in animals regardless of their health issues and take on the medical expenses for that particular animal. What we do is provide the animal a temporary home through a network of animal foster parents who agree to take care of the animal until it is adopted.

Over 200 spay/neuter surgeries were funded by your donations to ASVT.

If you are looking for a low cost spay/neuter for your pets, Texas Litter Control has three locations available for your schedule.
