June 2022 Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Good numbers of bass have been taken the past few weeks by fishing shallow cover such as boat docks, rock structures and grass beds along the banks on the north end of the lake. The best baits to use have been plastic worms, spinner baits and some crank baits. Once the shallow water bites slow down, I like to fish pond dams, roadbeds and points in 8’–15’ depths using the Carolina worm rig. This rig lets you feel the bottom structure better and covers an area much faster with the heavier weight above the 2’ leader.

Crappie: Crappie are being caught at this time by using jigs and minnows fished around bridge pilings and brush piles in 12’-20’ depths.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: During this time of year these fish can be caught by trolling pet spoons or bouncing slab spoons along the bottom of submerged humps and points in 10’-30’ depths. It is a good idea to learn how to be able to tell the difference between whites and hybrids because many of these newly stocked hybrids are about the same size as these white bass, but the legal lengths are different.

Catfish: Catfish action during this time of year is usually great. Places to catch these fish are under the 1097 Bridge and near any creek and river channel. Baiting up these areas with range cubes or milo will increase the action. Good baits are dip baits, night crawlers, shrimp and chicken livers.
