September 2022 Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Bass fishing during late summer will start to pick up a bit.  Shad and other bait fish will start moving to the backs of coves and creeks which draws many of these bass in these areas.  Rattletraps and shallow running crank baits work well in these areas, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Crappie: Crappie action is a little slow due to hot water temperatures, although some can still be caught near the 1097 Bridge and around brush and stumps in 15’ – 20’ depths using minnows and jigs.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: These fish are best active during early morning hours along shallow points and flats and can be caught on rattletraps and slab spoons.  Once the sun gets up high, I like to troll small pet spoons behind deep diving crank baits in 18’ – 25’ depths over submerged humps and points.

Catfish: Catfish action is good at this time of year especially during the first 2 or 3 hours of the morning.  Dip baits, shrimp and chicken livers are all good baits to use to catch these fish.  Just bait up areas along river and creek channels with milo or range cubes and get ready for the action.  Best depths have been around 20’ or so.
