Million Veteran Program

The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is a national research program to learn how genes, lifestyle, and military exposures affect health and illness. Veterans who partner with MVP provide genetic contributions with far-reaching impact offering the potential to change the lives of Veterans, and ultimately, everyone.

Since launching in 2011, over 900,000 Veterans have joined MVP, making it one of the world’s largest programs on genetics and health research. The scientific discoveries already underway are helping the VA reach their goal of transforming healthcare.

Currently, clinical data, questionnaire data, and imputed genotype data are available to approved researchers who are participating in the alpha, beta, and gamma testing of the access process. Thirty-one research projects have been approved for funding and are in various stages from start-up to completion.

The projects are largely in the areas of mental health (PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, multi-substance abuse), cancer, cardiovascular and cardio-metabolic diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, age-related macular degeneration, tinnitus, and Gulf War Illness.

Veterans can now join the groundbreaking Million Veteran Program (MVP) online. To learn more or join, visit mvp.va.gov today.
