February 2023 Lake Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Bass action continues to be good for anglers fishing plastic worms, spinner baits and shallow running crank baits in the backs of creeks and coves such as boat docks, rocks or stumps and laydowns. Water temperatures get a bit warmer in these areas and they are searching out nest sights to spawn.

Crappie: During this time of year good slab crappie can be caught by fishing with minnows or jigs along bridge pilings or submerged brush in 15’-20’ depths. A little later this month they will also move to shallow protected coves making ready for the spawn. Also, the Stubblefield Bridge on the far north end of the lake is holding good slabs of crappie as well.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: At this time of year these fish usually hold along the drop offs of submerged humps and points in the main lake areas. Slab spoons bounced along the bottom or trolling small pet spoons in these areas are great methods in locating and catching these strong fighting fish and they are good eating as well.

Catfish: Your best catfish action can be by baiting up areas along creek and river channels with sour grain or range cubes and fishing either chicken liver, shrimp or dip baits near the bottom in 15’-25’ depths. Also, the 1097 Bridge is another great catfishing area this time of year.
