5 Ways to Make Camping Fun for the Whole Family

Camping is a great activity, but sometimes kids don’t want to be outside. However, we think we may have a solution to that. Try some of these tips to get the most out of your family camping trip.

Travel to a beautiful park

If you are looking to get out of your comfort zone, it’s time to travel. The United States is home to some of the best national parks and camping sights in the world. Visit the majestic Yellowstone, the first national park, and discover incredible sights on your next camping trip. Discover hidden trails in the Grand Canyon, or climb to new heights at the Rocky Mountain National park. You can turn camping into a family adventure such as a road trip. Surround you and your family in some of the most gorgeous places on earth. When you visit a national park you get a lot of quality family time and value for your dollar. Do your research on each camping site so you are best prepared with materials and access to toiletries.

Make your meals before you go

Eating while camping can be a long and boring process of gathering materials and cleaning. It doesn’t have to be, as Jill Nystul points out on her website onegoodthing. Camping meals can be simple and pre-made. Try making yourself snacks or whole meals beforehand. You save time and allow yourself to worry about other things while on your camping trip. If you don’t have the time to make your own meals before you go camping, try buying some prepackaged meals to save you time. You can also pre-make some desserts as well, although it may not be as good as having some good-ole’ fashion smores at the firepit.

Have a Scavenger Hunt

Want to get to know your local camping park better, but don’t know how to make your kids interested? Turn it into a game! You can hunt for animals, plants, rivers, views, and special rocks to look for. This is a great way to get kids into learning about wildlife. Include a prize as a reward for completing your scavenger hunt! Scavenger hunts are an exciting way to learn and encourage your family to love the outdoors. Make sure that you know your way around the camping grounds or park you are staying in. Also, make sure your kids have the supervision of an adult with them.

Catch Some Fireflies

This activity can be done even if you are camping right in your own backyard! Fireflies are fun little bugs that love to glow at night time. You and your kids can poke holes in the lids of mason jars and catch some bugs! You better move quickly though as these bugs are fast! After you catch a couple make sure to release them back out into the wild. This is a great camping activity if you have any little ones and want to tire them out before bedtime.

Fossil Hunting

Got a kid who loves dinosaurs, but not big into the outdoors? Take him/her fossil hunting! At some parks, you can find fossils of all kinds. This doesn’t just include dinosaurs, but also rare forms of plant life and other animals. There is something magical about finding a bone of an animal and discovering the species you just found. Start building a collection each time you go camping. Your children will cherish those items for years to come!

  2. […] Camping can be fun for the whole family, but before you head out on your first adventure make sure to go over the basics of first aid. Although the first aid kit was last on our list, it is one of the most important items to pack. That first aid kit can be critical in emergency situations. Review the materials in the kit, and what each item can be used for. Most emergency first aid kits have instruction manuals in them that review each tool. […]
