Pool Design is a Family Affair
When you enter the building, you’ll be greeted by either Debbie Pendley, (co-owner and Master Designer) or Shelley Skains (Operations Manager/Master Designer, and daughter of Dan and Debbie). From your initial visit, you’ll be in direct contact with the owners and managers of Dominion Pool Group. “Each customer is treated as an individual,” says Shelley, “we want to be hands-on with every project and work with our customers to design something truly unique.”
The mother and daughter duo each bring a little something different to the table. “I work on bridging the gap between modern and traditional design styles,” says Shelley, featured in publications such as City Pages as an award-winning designer. “Both me and my mother are Master Designers with decades of experience. Every design is custom and we also project manage these designs out in the field so that the design stays accurate all throughout the process. We also routinely take courses on the latest codes and designs to stay up to date.”’

Just like any construction project, designing is the fun part. Building, on the other hand, can be an entirely different matter. Establishing trust early on with the design process is critical for both Debbie and Shelley. As Shelley notes, “We understand that building, whether it be a home or a pool, can be a stressful time for families,” says Shelley. “We want our clients to know that we’ll be with them throughout the entire process and want to make it as smooth as possible. Taking clients through an extensive design process helps let them know we aren’t going to cut any corners.”
The Process
When you decide to invest in a custom pool with them, Dominion Pool Group will contact you to set up a meeting to come to your home and discuss the features, likes, dislikes, and budget for the pool you are considering. They will evaluate your backyard, topography, the architecture of your home, focal and access points, family needs/usage, tree locations, locate utilities, check for easements, and a number of other things. It will be necessary to have a site or plot plan of your house and property available for their consultant.
Following the initial consultation, your designer will return to the office and design a custom pool to incorporate all the features and benefits which were discussed. They will then contact you to schedule an appointment to come to their office/showroom for a no-pressure, professional presentation of your custom Dominion Pool. Here, you will be able to see the many samples of the materials being suggested such as tile, coping, deck, and plaster.
