Maximum Effort

Maximum Effort

The MISD Fishing Team competed in the Texas High School Bass Association Houston Division Tournament on Toledo Bend this past Saturday February 19th.

Maximum Effort

This was the 4th Conference Tournament out of 5 for the Regular Season, and confidence was high going into the event to come away with our 4th Victory in as many events.

Unfortunately, the combined squad from both Lake Creek & Montgomery High Schools came up a little short, falling to Tomball Memorial, and coming in 2nd out of 28 High Schools.  Your Team represented us all extremely well, giving “Maximum Effort,” and leaving it all on the water.

Our Top 3 Teams had a combined weight of 36.62 pounds, led by reigning Angler of the Year Cade Lipham.  “Superfly” brought in a nice limit of 13.15 pounds, landing him in 5th place out of 143 Individual Teams.  Following closely behind in 8th place with 12.06 were Jack Haag and Jackson Wilkerson.  Our third best Team was made up of Blake Gatewood and Hayden Janisch with 11.41 pounds, placing them in 11th overall.

Many of the High Finishers reported a good bite on a myriad of Soft Plastics.  Whether it was on a Carolina Rig, Texas Rig, Wacky Style, Drop Shot, and the ultimate confidence bait, a shaky head, the Team did well on Soft Plastics.  Green Pumpkin was a good choice, in either Creature styled baits like a Strike King Rage Craw or Rodent.  Also scoring well for the Team were soft stick baits such as 5 & 6 inch Ochos, as well as straight tail worms on the shaky heads.  Chatterbaits also saw some good action as well.

While disappointed, the Team has nothing to hang their heads about, as they earned 99 out of 100 points for their 2nd place finish, while Tomball Memorial earned 100 points.   Since MISD has 3 Tournament Victories, and one 2nd place finish, the Team still has the lead over Tomball Memorial for the Conference Crown by 4 points going into our Final Conference event at Lake Conroe on March the 12th.

Speaking of March the 12th, the Team would love to see as many community members as possible come out and cheer them on at the weigh in at the MISD Stadium.   All the festivities begin at 3:00 P.M. and normally conclude at 4:30 when weigh in concludes, and the winners are announced shortly thereafter.

So come on out to support these young men and women of the Highly Decorated MISD Fishing Team, as they vie for their 7th Conference Crown in 8 years of competing.  Rumor has it that one of the main sponsors for the Team Rudy’s Barbecue, will be on site serving up some of their Brisket & Pulled Pork Sandwiches!  This will be a special occasion, for 92 awesome students from both Lake Creek and Montgomery High Schools, where you know “Maximum Effort” will be put forth.  We look forward to seeing you there!!
