There is no question drinking enough water has health benefits. Sometimes getting the recommended ounces (125 for men, 90 for women, according to the National Academy of Medicine) can seem an impossible task. 1. Get a reusable water bottle

Humans are creatures of habit. We are also generally motivated by accomplishing goals. Breaking up a tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks is one of the best ways to tackle a large problem. When we try to drink enough water in the day by consuming a certain number of glasses, it can be easier to fall behind or forget. Having a high-quality, reusable bottle nearby throughout the day helps measure your fluid intake and keep it consistent. 

2. Set realistic, manageable goals

If just starting out trying to drink more water, it is extremely helpful to set a realistic goal. After all, if you’ve been hardly drinking any water during the day and seek now to drink a gallon a day, this can seem an insurmountable task. As with anything else, giving yourself smaller goals while working up to the final goal can help you stay on track to see your accomplishments through. For example, starting out with a goal of drinking at least 32 ounces a day for a week is much more likely than immediately drinking 125 ounces with minimal prior fluid consumption. Yes, you read that right! There are plenty of foods high in water content, such as cantaloupe and lettuce, and adding these foods to your diet can help you meet your daily hydration goals.

5. Focus on the long-term benefits

Sometimes, when making a positive change, we need to change our mindset in order to accomplish beneficial changes. Joint health, sleep, and proper blood flow (including to the urinary tract) are all going to be greatly improved by proper hydration. Quality of life will be greatly improved. Stay the course!
