If you’re looking for fun activities to do at home this summer, we have a unique list that will fit just about everyone. Honestly, I’ve done most of these with my family and friends and had great results. Here are some things you can do if you are stuck at home.
Jackbox Party Pack
Jackbox TV is great for both children and adults. You can play by hooking up your computer to your TV or using a gaming device. Essentially, you and others will play games designed to test your trivia skills and quick thinking. The catch is that you can play on your phone together with everyone. Take on trivia with a murder mystery twist or try to fake your way to the top of the game. In any case, JackBox TV is full of fun activities that keep you on your toes with friends and families. You can even play while you are apart since you vote/answer on your phone.
Do a scavenger hunt
This fun activity is good for the whole family or even just adults. If you’re playing with children, pick out a couple of toys and hide them across the house. Set up clues and leave behind trails for the kids to follow. When playing with adults, like your significant other, try hiding love notes all across the house. You may just have to get more creative with your hiding spot stuff. While you’re not exactly reinventing the wheel, these fun activities they can provide hours of entertainment.
Turn movie night into a drinking game
While watching a movie with friends and family can be fun, sharing a few drinks (safely) and watching movies with friends creates some great memories. Find some of your favorite films on Amazon Prime, Netflix, or any other streaming service and let the good times roll. Pick your favorite beer, wine, or alcohol. However, I do advise not to choose a more serious film. You don’t want to end up in tears by the end of the night. Instead, focus on a comedy or action film. An 80’s horror is almost certainly appropriate for this occasion. Drink every time there is a jumpscare or someone gets killed. Make up your own rules! It’s one of the only fun activities you can repeat over and over and still have a good time.
Learn a new skill
Although it may not be one of the first fun activities to come to mind, learning a new skill can teach you more things than one. Learning something like coding or a new language is only going to help you grow mentally, and even in the job market. It can also give you a new perspective on the world. Take time while stuck at home to better yourself and learn something new.
Put together a large puzzle
Large puzzles are fun – like, really fun! It’s a fun activity that can be completed with the whole family or just by yourself. It can be a relaxing way to de-stress your mind and to focus solely on one specific thing. Try out a large Space Puzzle or even piecing all of the Disney Princesses together.
Join an online reading group
Do you like reading books but don’t feel like you have anyone to talk to about them? Not to worry! With the power of the internet, you can start a book reading club. Starting an online reading group is one of the fun activities you can do straight from your home. It takes a solitary activity and turns it into a community. You can start one through Facebook, Goodreads, or YouTube. In fact, Audible has a book club in which they are listening to parts of a book every week. The best part, you don’t have to leave home to meet up!
Create a photobook
Perfect for a rainy day or when you have nothing to do, designing a photo album can be fun and rewarding. Some people like having a digital photo album, while others like a physical photo album. Personally, I believe it’s always good to have at least one physical photo album in your home. Most of the time, I’ve used it as a conversational piece, but I like having some new memories close on hand. it makes reminiscing much more fun when you can feel them in your hands.
Do some cooking
Fun activities can be good for your health, right? Well, that depends. Cooking can be as healthy as you want it or as unhealthy as you want it. However, the important thing is that you’re in the kitchen creating something delicious. If you have been meaning to try out a new recipe or come up with your own special sauce, this is the perfect time to do it. In addition, if you aren’t much of a cook then now is the perfect time to learn.
Do a backyard decathlon
Looking for fun things to do on a Saturday and have kids or family over? Design an obstacle course in your backyard and have a timed decathlon! This doesn’t mean you need to get too fancy with it. Try some events like:
- Carrying an egg
- Jumping across the yard in pillowcases
- Have a whipped cream eating contest
- Have a pie-eating contest
- Spray each other with water guns
- Pin the tail while blindfolded
- Bean bag toss
- And much much more!
Let your family members get creative with it. Most importantly, make sure the games are going to make you sweat and have fun!
Draft a “dreams list”
When stuck at home and looking for fun activities to do, a simple dreams list can take you hours. A dream list is much like a bucket list, except you also categorize your dream job and life. The more detailed you can get the better. You’ll actually learn a lot more about yourself than you thought, and have fun thinking of the dream vacation or dream sports venue to go to. It’s a great way to learn the life you want to lead and how to accomplish it.
