7 Ways to Spruce up Your Backyard

7 Ways to Spruce up Your Backyard

Looking to spruce up your backyard this year? While it may seem like an afterthought, your backyard can become one of your best assets. Not only can you impress people when they come over, but you can improve your home value too. Here are 7 ways to spruce up your backyard this season.

Put in a picnic table and awning

One of the best ways to spruce up your backyard and turn it into a social gathering is to get a new picnic table. A picnic table will allow you to have friends and family over for social gatherings. You get to enjoy each other’s company while also enjoying the fresh air. Another great thing about investing in a picnic table is that there are many designs and options to choose from. You can find a picnic table that suits your backyard and improves upon it. Adding an awning for your picnic table can also make your experience more enjoyable. Guests will love being able to come out to your backyard and enjoy the fresh air.

Add a fence

Adding a fence is not only a great way to spruce up your backyard, but also improve the value of your home. Don’t go with a chain-link fence. Choose iron or wood if you want to truly increase home value. In addition, you can also paint your wood fence every couple of years to reflect the unique style of your backyard. Whether you want a bright splash of color or more subdued tones, a freshly painted fence can spruce up just about any backyard.

Fine trim your backyard

Have leaves everywhere or annoying branches laying about? Then it’s time to start clipping and trimming your yard. You will be surprised by how trimming up some bushes can bring your backyard together like never before. Make sure to mow, weed-eat, and clip low-hanging branches. It’s a simple backyard improvement, but it works every time! Just avoid damaging your fence!

Add a firepit

Almost everyone has a memory gathering around a campfire and making s’mores. Adding a firepit can spruce up your backyard and improve the value of your home. Your family will love gathering around the fire pit on cold nights and relaxing. An outdoor firepit is a great way to relax with adults and drink some “adult beverages.” You can have them custom-built or go for a cheaper option. Either way, a firepit is sure to make your backyard stand out among the rest. Also, you have instant access to make that classic s’mores you loved as a kid!

Put up some lights

Don’t put up Christmas lights to spruce up your backyard. Instead, use soft glowing bulbs to light up pathways around your backyard. You can also use lights to highlight a pool or deck. Using Christmas lights for this will look tacky during the spring or fall—that’s why we don’t recommend them. Look for lights that are going to make your home and backyard feel more rustic or cozy. When guests step out into your backyard they will feel warm and welcome as lights mix with the stars overhead.

Plant a home garden

Starting a home garden can help you save money and spruce up your backyard. Obviously, you can plant vegetables to eat, but you can also plant flowers that will bring color to your backyard.  With a home garden, you can pursue several different gardening options. Just be aware of the time and financial commitments required.. Start small with something like square foot gardening and then grow over time. You want to make sure you can successfully keep a garden before you start pouring large amounts of time and money into it.

Build a deck

Building a deck gives you a lot of options on how to spruce up your backyard. More importantly, it can fulfill multiple functions once built. You can use it as a place to eat, a place to cook, or even a place to watch movies. Building a deck is a large investment though, and takes time to complete. Even if you plan on doing it yourself, building a proper deck takes time and commitment. However, the benefits of a deck are almost endless. It’s best to leave your deck in the hands of a professional.
