Derek’s Fishing Adventures: MISD FISHING TEAM 10-1-22 Lake Somerville Tournament

On Saturday, October 1, 2022 I arrived at the boat ramp on Lake Somerville.  The day was not starting off very well.  I had not even put the boat in the water when I realized the trim was messed up.  What a way to start the day.  I noticed the motor was trimmed down and it was very difficult to get it off the transom saver.  That would make it impossible to use the big motor.  We decided to launch and use the trolling motor till Mr. Hooker arrived with the Shipley boat.  We were sure thankful he brought an extra boat and arrived before the tournament started.  We had a hard time getting our boat out of the water because the water was 6 feet down and there was no boat ramp.  It was up on the land and we were on bare sand.  We had to keep repositioning to get the boat onto the trailer.  Then we put the Shipley boat in the water an were ready to start the day.

Today was the first tournament of the season and I was the captain for two seniors, Reece and Kaden on the M.I.S.D. Fishing team.  It was a beautiful day on the lake with clear skies.  I did not know it, but Paxton was also captaining for his brother, Hub that is now on the fishing team.  It was great seeing him again.  When I first started fishing for the Montgomery Anglers in 2014 Paxton and I were fishing partners.

As first light set upon us, it was time to start.  There were 173 boats in the tournament today.  That is very crowded for this lake.  The boats were all stacked on top of each other.  Everyone was trying to get to the same honey hole.  I guess they all thought it was the best spot on the lake.

Kaden caught the first fish in the first 30 minutes of fishing.  He caught that keeper on a spinner bait.  He caught another one on a brush pile but it was short.

Reece and Kaden continued to fish using a Texas rig, spinner bait and a square bill with no luck at all.  Those 2 bites were the only bites those guys had all day. Hopefully they will have a better day on their home lake at the end of the month.  THROW IT OUT, POP IT IN, FISH ON !!!
