December 2023: Lake Conroe Fishing Report

Black Bass: Now that Winter is in full swing and water temps have dropped into the 50-degree mark, many of the bass are going to be holding to some type of cover.  Any type of rock structure such as bridges and breakwaters are good places to start and lure choices can be spinner baits, crank baits or plastic worms.  Other bass structures are boat docks and grass that covers much shore line in many of the creeks and coves around the lake.

Crappie: Now that the water temp is in the 50’s, these slabs of crappie often bunch up in large numbers and once located can be very good.  I like to fish deep structures, bridge pilings, timber and brush is 18’-30’ depths with minnows and jigs.

White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: The best thing about trying to catch these fish is that you don’t have to get up early and freeze to death.  They can be caught throughout the day because the sun brings schools of shad to the top of humps and points making it easier to locate and catch these fish.  Slab spoons and trolling pet spoons are my favorite and easiest ways to catch these fish.

Catfish: Catfishing this time of year is always good.  I like to bait up several areas with range cubes or milo along river and creek channels and use dip baits on sponge hooks to catch these fish.  I will bait up and fish several of these areas to look for the best action and larger fish.  The 1097 Bridge is also a prime spot to catch good numbers of cats as well.
