Black Bass: Good numbers of Bass have been taken the past few weeks by fishing shallow cover such as boat docks, rock structures & stumps or laydowns in creeks or coves that have some. Best baits to use have been crank baits, plastic worms and spinner baits. Also, brush piles can be good cover to fish in 8’ – 15’ depths.
Crappie: Good action on fishing for Crappie this time of year is by using minnows and jigs, fished around brush, treetops and bridge pilings in 12’ – 22’ depths. Some can also be found under boat docks that have more than 12’ or so, especially if there is some brush there.
White Bass & Hybrid Striped Bass: This time of year these fish can be caught by trolling pet spoons or bouncing slab spoons along the bottom of submerged humps and points in 18’ – 30’ depths. It is a good idea to search for these fish and the bait that they are feeding on with your electronics before working the area.
Catfish: Catfish action during this time of year is usually great, depending on the wind and weather. Just ahead of a cold front is your best chance of catching a good number and size of these fish. Places to catch these fish are under the 1097 Bridge and near any creek and river channels. Baiting up these areas with range cubes or milo will increase the action. Good baits are dip baits, night crawlers and chicken livers.
