Make your home energy efficient or “Green”

Adding elements that make your home more energy-efficient can increase home value by several thousands of dollars. Investing in a new A/C unit, adding window tint, insulating pipes can all help you save money and make your home more energy-efficient. The best part about adding upgrades like this is that you don’t have to wait for it to pay off when you sell your home. Instead, doing things like window tinting can lower your monthly utility bills and starts paying for itself immediately.

You will want to stay away from adding something like solar panels to your home. This is because solar panels can be very expensive, and generally take about 7 years to finally start paying for themselves because of the upfront costs. If you plan on doing a green renovation like that, make sure you’re going to be in your home for the next 10 years. That way you will be able to reap the rewards of that renovation. Renovating an old roof though before going on the market can help you sell a home faster. In general, updating can help boost the value of your home. Having a home garden can also boost your curb appeal and is “green” as well.

Rip up old carpet

Some renovations to improve your home value can require a lot of work, but have huge payoffs.  Homebuyers are becoming turned off by carpet because germs, stains that stick, and allergies.  More and more people are realizing that the carpet isn’t great for boosting the value of your home. Instead, rip out that old carpet in your bedrooms or living room area. This can be a great selling point especially if you put in wood flooring. However, you don’t have to choose expensive wood flooring, there are also alternatives like tile, laminate, and bamboo. Bamboo, in particular, is a cheaper alternative to wood flooring but has the additive bonus of being “green” and renewable. It’s also easy to clean, and a great way to increase home value.

Increase home value by adding more square footage

Everybody wants a little bit more, and that goes for owning a home as well. If you can open up a room or add an open-concept to your living space, you can raise the value of your home by several thousand dollars. Before completing this renovation though, know that it will take time and most people will need the help of an expert. If you plan on completing this by yourself make sure to have a detailed plan on what exactly you are going to remove and how. Also, have a decoration plan and design style that you plan to use to improve the space. Especially if you want to go on the market soon, you’ll want to have a stage-ready home to show people. Dave Ramsey also recommends starting in your kitchen or living room first.

Add smart devices

Increase home value by adding items such as smart thermostats, security measures, and other online technology. Adding bulbs that you can control from your phone, and even change their color, can be a small detail that wows a potential buyer. However, adding smart clocks and smart smoke detectors are a better investment. You can also add these items right before you go on sale, but make sure your realtor knows how to show off the devices.

Add a bidet

I think everyone in America has realized how much a bidet could increase home value. In most other countries a bidet is common. What you may not know is that a bidet is water-efficient, can be cheap, and saves you money in more ways than one. Bidets start under $70 and increase in price for features you want. Including a bidet in your home Is a great renovation for your bathroom that doesn’t cost you thousands of dollars. if you’re looking for a simple upgrade to your bathroom this is your best bet for the price. Each bidet has different features that can be custom to your needs. It may take some time to get used to, but it is totally worth it.

  2. […] A fence is a great idea for home security for your backyard or home, however, it’s probably not the fence you are thinking of. We aren’t going to recommend a privacy fence. Instead, we recommend that you buy an iron or metal fence that has open space between bars and points on the top. Why is this? For starters, a privacy fence is great for privacy, but not for security. Robbers can still view your home from the outside, and use the fence to their advantage. They can use it as a way to get into your home without being noticed. With an open design, there are no blind spots for a criminal to hide. The pointed ends also make it harder to climb than a privacy wood fence. Choose the right fence and you could even increase your home’s value. […]
